Prairie Creek State Park

Prairie Creek is one of the redwood parks run via a joint venture of the state and federal governments. We spent the day there – and it was spectacular.

We took the ranger’s recommendation and walked the Karl Knapp Trail. Prairie Creek turned out to be our favorite park of the Redwood group. Amazing at every turn.

Many of the trees are at least 300 feet tall. They regularly live 500 – 600 years, but some live for thousands of years.

We had another beautiful picnic lunch before going on a search for the elk that live in the area.

We didn’t find any, but had a nice walk on the beach, and then went back to town for a good halibut dinner.

We have been marveling at how densely forested the hillsides along the highways are here – just bursting with greenery.
