Jan and I drove from the Redwood region of Northern California to the town of Ashland in Southern, Oregon. It’s known for its yearly Shakespeare Festival. When we arrived in town, we were surprised at how hot it was. It was having a heat wave in the high 90’s – a big change from the northern coast of California. It’s a cute town with a definite artisan vibe and a local university.

To beat the heat, we visited a modern art museum and a hands-on science museum that would be fun for the kids. The science museum had a good film on dinosaurs that would have been a big hit with my grandson. The next day, we got up early to spend the coolest part of the day in a beautiful park right in the city. I’d love to have such a pretty walking trail with a stream and waterfalls for my morning walks every day.
We had already purchased tickets for the Shakespeare play, Julius Caesar, that was playing that evening. To fill the afternoon and get out of the heat, we chose another play, Quixote Nuevo. We LOVED Quixote Nuevo. It was funny, touching, serious and timely. The cast was marvelous. We felt so fortunate to have accidently happened upon such a good production. (We did not feel the same about Julius Caesar.)
